Join us at this unique opportunity to hear from Sir Brian Langstaff as he holds his first public lecture in relation to the 2024 Infected Blood Inquiry Report.
Following his appointment as Chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry, Sir Brian Langstaff and the Inquiry Team conducted a consultation on the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference. The consultation generated nearly 700 responses.
The Inquiry examined why men, women and children in the UK were given infected blood and/or infected blood products; the impact on their families; how the authorities (including government) responded; the nature of any support provided following infection; questions of consent; and whether there was a cover-up.
Since being appointed to Chair the Inquiry on 8 February 2018, Sir Brian spent the intervening six years with his team painstakingly gathering documents and evidence so that public concerns which had called for the Inquiry could be properly, fully and openly addressed.
Sir Brian Langstaff, a Former Pupil of George Heriot's School, was called to the Bar in 1971 and appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1994. Brian was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 1999, appointed to the High Court in 2005 and served as President of the Employment Appeal Tribunal for four years from 2012. As of 1 May 2018, Sir Brian retired from the High Court to work full-time on the Infected Blood Inquiry.
Join us on Thursday 2 October 2025 to hear first-hand from Sir Brian on how this public inquiry unfolded and its key outcomes. An opportunity not to be missed.
