From the Archives

What a difference 200 years can make. An ariel view today would certainly show the dramatic architectural changes that have occurred since the attached image was created in 1823. Here, the Quadrangle is recognisable, and beyond that we see the original steep North entrance via Heriots Bridge, a Bowling Green, and a reservoir by the Vennel gate.

Today we would see the Lauriston, Castle, and Raeburn buildings, Greyfriars, the Grassmarket Campus, including the Sports Centre, the School Hall, Refectory and Nursery. And of course, Playfair's Lodge building, terrace and boundary walls built when the entrance was moved to the South at Lauriston Place. We would also see the war memorial on the east lawn.

We wonder what additions those looking at an ariel view in the year 2223 will see? Suggestions on the back of a postcard please.
