This trowel together with Mallet & Level was presented by the Governors of George Heriot's Trust to the Rev Cornelius Giffen, minister of St. Mary's Church and a member of the Trust on the occasion of the laying of the Foundation Stone of the new Science & Tech Buildings in connection with George Heriot's Hospital School.

Greyfriars Gate 1959

Made in celebration of the opening of the new Greyfriars gate.

From 1907, the key is engraved:

“Presented to the right honourable, The Lord Provost of Edinburgh, J.P. Gibson, Chairman of George Heriot's Trust on his opening New Drawing Class rooms at George Heriot's School 8 April 1907 by the contractors.”
