You will see in the image a detailed etching from the council room fireplace, of 1827, detailing a painting by Bonar depicting Herioters in a very rural looking Stockbridge. 

Hospital tradition states that three Heriot's boys discovered a spring, near Stockbridge, which would become one of Edinburgh's most famous landmarks, St. Bernard's Well.
