On Tuesday, the Development Team were delighted to welcome Former Pupils Chick Murray (1963) and Alec Walker (1963) back to Heriot's for a visit. After leaving Heriot's in 1963, Chick went on to teacher training college at Moray House, before finding himself back at Lauriston Place, this time as a teacher. For many happy years, Chick taught in the Design and Tech Department at Heriot's and has many fond memories of his time there.

Chick and Alec met during their school days and have remained firm friends ever since. Chick's passion for woodwork was evident early on and when Alec got married, Chick used his skills to create a bespoke coffee table as a wedding gift - constructed from an old Heriot's school desk that was being thrown away!

During Tuesday's visit, Chick and Alec met with current Head of Design and Tech, Ian Purves (2000). Ian is a 3rd generation Herioter himself and together the three FP's shared happy memories of woodwork throughout the years. Chick was delighted to see how much had changed in the department and even spotted a few sturdy tools that still remained from his days at the work benches!

If you are inspired by Chick and Alec's visit and would like to organise your own, please get in touch with the Development Team on dev@george-heriots.com.
