The Grassicks - Former Pupil Visit.

Paul & Annie Grassick
Paul & Annie Grassick

We were delighted to welcome Former Pupil Paul Grassick (1969) back to Heriot's after a considerable gap! Paul's wife Annie joined us as we toured around classrooms which Paul remembered with fondness.

We first headed up the Northwest turret to what was 'Kipper's' (Mr Heron's) English classroom and to this day remains an English classroom, fireplace and panelling intact. Paul spoke with amusement of a story concerning a fellow classmate using the adjoining room as a hideout from the then Headmaster, Mr Dewar, who had hunted him down for being absent from School after being spotted on George IV bridge when he should have been in class. Kipper came to his defence and assured Mr Dewar the pupil had been there all along!

We then wandered through the Quadrangle and down to the Raeburn building to visit Chemistry, here Paul recalled the bygone long wooden benches, and spoke with Principal Teacher of Chemistry Frances Donaldson, about the changes to the department and continued success. Paul thoroughly enjoyed Chemistry at Heriot’s and his aptitude for the subject encouraged his teacher to arrange for him to work alongside PhD students at Heriot – Watt while Paul was still at School.

If you would like to return to the School for a trip down memory lane, please do get in contact with the Development Team and we would be delighted to arrange this. Please email development@george-heriots.com.
