The family of Willie Waitt (1951) has notified the school of the sad news of his passing. 

Kenny (1979) has told us that Willie died last week, the 1st October 2025 at the age of 92. His passing was unexpected and sudden.

He was known throughout the Heriot's community as Willie Waitt. He attended GHS as a pupil and pretty much his whole teaching career (PE) was at the school from November 1957 to June 1993. As he approached retirement, Willie noted on his leaving that he had celebrated 49 June Days at Heriot's firstly as a pupil and then as a member of staff.

Willie is survived by his wife, Kathleen and children, Kenneth, Gordon and Margaret and four grandchildren, Sean, Alison, Stuart and Scott. All the children and grandchildren attended the school for either all or part of their schooling. It is worth noting Willie's father was also a Herioter. 

Willie's funeral service is to be held at Mortonhall Crematorium, Edinburgh on the 21st October 2025 at 1pm. All welcome. A video link is available below for those that are not able to attend.
