The first barbers in Edinburgh

Whilst doing some light history homework into the life of Heriot's this summer break, we stumbled across the odd little tale.

It was said that in 1671 David Pringle and William Wood, barber cut the hair of 60 boys on June Day. Wood was found not to actually hold a licence to cut hair in the Hospital and was imprisoned!

The matter was taken to Privy Council before it was settled.

At least we know that rules and policy were held in as high regard at the very start of the schools life just as they are today!
