Former Pupil, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Blythe (1967) would like to share some information about upcoming events with The Royal Scots Club which may be of interest to Former Pupils and members of the Heriot's Community, specifically to those whose fathers or grandfathers served in the 1st or 2nd Battalions of The Royal Scots in the Far East during the Second World War.

2025 is the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which marked the end of hostilities in the Far East in Word War II and The Royal Scots Club is hosting a number of events during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to raise awareness of this important anniversary.

The Royal Scots Regimental Trust will mark this occasion with a memorial service on Saturday 16 August 2025 at The Royal Scots Memorial Garden at Lauriston Castle, 2 Cramond Road South, Edinburgh EH4 6AD.Those wishing to attend should assemble directly in front of Lauriston Castle at 1030. More details can be found here.

Or, you may wish to visit The Royal Scots Museum in Edinburgh Castle. The Museum is reaching out to the Edinburgh community with a military Family Research Area. 15 August, VJ Day, is the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 in The Far East. The event is to raise awareness of the experiences of The Royal Scots men in the sometimes called 'Forgotten War'.

When: Tuesday 12th August until Friday 15th August 10am to 4.30pm daily. Admission is free.
